Cheque, Mate?
Are cheques dumb?
A cheque (check) arrived in my letterbox last week.
It triggered good and bad thoughts.
And you know what that means.
Yes! It’s time to play …
Fortunately Unfortunately!
Fortunately
I’d been waiting on this payment for over two months. I was happy to get the money in any form.
I may even have accepted flour, sugar or [...]
Dark Days
Lightning seems to be striking everywhere. Twice.
Today I was going to ask if cheques were redundant.
But given what’s happening in Christchurch, this seems callously frivolous.
I kept babbling through the recent floods, fires and cyclones.
Why stop now?
Good question.
Maybe it’s the sheer accumulation of tragedies.
Or the variety.
Or the fact they’re happening all round us.
Maybe it’s the [...]

Having had a Bex and a good lie down, I’m in a much happier frame this week.

Things that make owning and running a business worth all the aggro and pain.
Things that keep me at the grindstone [...]
Making Amends
How should we say sorry?
There was trouble with Skype the other week.
So much that they sent a sorry email.
I was impressed to see it included a voucher for free talk time.
Until I redeemed it and saw how much.
My excitement turned to dismay and my positive view of Skype took a hit.
So, how should we [...]
Missing Persons
Are we bereft of spirit?
Many of us have observed (or at least experienced) the course of economic rationalism.
From my experiences and observations, I’ve formed the schizophrenic view that:
Government is inefficient and ineffective.
AND
Capitalism is ruthless and lethal.
I’m now hearing that a mix of these forces may be the new way forward.
And from two interactions [...]
