What Do YOU Want?
This is Blog Post 52. I’m halfway through my MYOB contract. What do you reckon?
Words can’t describe my gratitude for your readership and comments thus far. To help me hone my game and keep you in the hunt, I now seek your guidance.
Most of my posts combine the elements below. However, as this blog is meant to assist, educate and entertain you, I’m keen to know if you prefer some things to others.
Lists
Five inappropriate Easter gifts. Ten tips to trigger unwanted faxes. Fifteen ways to freak out your accountant.
Do you like your content short, sharp and numbered?
Stories
A funny thing happened to me on the way to the tax office… I remember the day I mixed red paint for Greenpeace… Not every driver gets Motley Crue in their cab…
Do you prefer content that’s up close and personal?
Updates
Yesterday I ate Flip’s muesli. Today my IT Guy sent his debt collector round. Tomorrow I’m skipping town for Hepburn Springs.
Would you rather see daily snapshots of life in the Empire?
Lessons
Lost deals. Dry wells. Wasted years. Unhappy campers. You name it, I’ve blown it.
Shall I sate you with schadenfreude by telling my tales of woe?
Topics
Bookkeeping. Web design. Tax minimisation. Cold calling. Telephone ROBOTS.
Should I just cut the crap and stay on topic, so you can get in, get wise and get out ASAP?
Other
Perhaps you prefer all of the above. Or something else.
I’m in your hands. Just say the word!

Give me stories, give me life lessons, give me topics (but not bookkeeping!) Love your work – anything that showcases your quirky personal writing style is tops with me.

Thank you very much, Joanna. I really appreciate your kind feedback and constant support. Best regards, P.
More will do just fine thanks Cobba :- P
Cheers

PS Look! I did a one-liner
…Oh Crap! Make that 2
Thank you, Stephen. That line will do just fine!
I love the stories, updates, lessons and the occasional list and general topic. Your writing is engaging so I’m happy for you to have a pretty wide berth…I’ll keep reading even if I don’t always find the time to comment.
Wow! 3 from 3. I appear to be in the ball park. Many thanks, Kate!
Hi Paul,
There are two functions which are changing incredibly quickly as a result of the increase of the internet. They are marketing and distribution. Many small business owners are completely missing the opportunities that this presents and I’m personally looking to find people who have a passion for this and find out about the stories they have on making this all work for their business in practice.
As we talk with small business owners we find that success in the future will be somewhat dependent on how they use online technology to make a success of their offline business.
If you are looking for content I would be happy about you distributing some of our Melbourne Vlog Tour direct to your readers. http://www.onesherpa.com/melbourne-tour

You’re a good writer Paul, but you don’t need me to convince you or that. Any style is fine, as long as you’re raising interesting questions and getting me thinking. That seems to be your knack; stick to it.
Hi Andee. Your website looks very interesting. I love some of those locations you’ve chosen. Megan handles all our guest posts, so she may well be in touch once she’s cast her editor’s eye over your material. Many thanks for your suggestion! P.
Good on you, Stephen; that’s beaut to hear. I’ll keep on keeping on.
All of the above Paul. Your writing and topic matter is invariably entertaining and erudite.
I do tend to dislike blog posts in the ‘X secrets to achieve Y’ style. I find this format terribly tired. I suppose it originates with the ‘7 habits of highly effective people’ … from 1989. Surely we can give it a rest now. However, I accept that lists are effective and easy to absorb.
Anyway, more of and from your unique worldview works for me.
Thank you, Ad. Coming from the bloke who helped me optimise a dozen of these posts, that’s high praise. I look foward to you finishing your master’s, so I can continue to improve in your savage reins. Best regards indeed! P.
Hi Paul,
Please don’t change your style, it is spot on as is. Yours is the only blob that I look forward to and read every edition. I particularly like the different styles ranging from well thought advice, to the odd rant and social comment. The variety is what makes it so great. Informative, interesting, educational and always entertaining.
Megan, please sign Paul up until 2020! This has to be brilliant for your brand.
As an aside, I just checked out Kate’s website – brilliant so if you haven’t clicked through it is well worth it.
Adam, it’s over between me and the goat. Unresolvable creative differences so you two are free to get back together now. Either that or we send her to Stephen as a nice pizza ingredient.
Not only your blob but your blog as well – sorry in a hurry so too many typos! Anyway keep up the great work!
Thank you, Malcolm. This is solid gold. The cheque is in the mail!
I thought blob was pretty good.
As for the goat, he’s too good for you Malcolm.
Sorry once again Paul for sullying your excellent forum.
(Malcolm’s) Society made me do it.
Paul. I’ve only discovered your blog recently. You don’t need to change anything. Lists, stories, life’s lessons all have a place. In fact it’s the range of things that you cover that makes it an interesting read. Go for it, mate.
That’s really great to hear, Graham. Thank you for your kind vote of confidence. I shall proceed apace!
